Gandalf’s Rebirth

“Until at last, I threw down my enemy, and smote his ruin upon the mountain side.”—Gandalf the White

Albert Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” So as you may notice, I like to explain ideas through the metaphor of cinema. In the previous portion of this segment, I introduced you to the term ‘kshatriya’ by way of “The Batman” movie. The duty of a kshatriya, or his dharma, is to be strong in order to protect those weaker than himself. Sacrifice IS his or her path to growth. Passion (rajas) is his strength, yet also his enemy. He must learn to control his passion, subjugate it to his will. At the beginning of “The Batman,” Bruce Wayne was an angry & hurt young man. Only after he was put to the test was heroic potential fully realized.

I also introduced you to the idea of the human elemental. It is the metaphysical engineer of the human physical form. It is the seat of desire, it is for the most part without rationality, it’s intelligence is purely instinctual…that is if left to its own devices. I also stated that ‘The Personality’ or The Mind has a close relationship with ‘The Human Elemental’ or The Body.

Its 8 a.m., your alarm clock goes off, your mind says, “Hey fucker, get your ass up! Time to go to work!” If you do indeed get up, that is the mind exerting its influence over the body.

It’s 6:30 p.m., your tired as hell from work, but it’s your best friends birthday. You go, you party, you drink more than you wanted to, and stay out longer than you should have. Maybe you meet someone, and you don’t go to sleep until much later. You set your alarm on your phone and you my dude, crash HARD!

Its 8 a.m. again, you know the drill, but this time when the alarm goes off, the body answers the call, the mind is still deep in sleep. The body turns off the alarm by instinct because it knows that it needs rest and it says, “Nah fuck that shit!”

Okay, so that was my life pretty often. I’m certain many of you have had similar situations at some point.

The point I am making is, while the mind is superior to the body, the body does have an intelligence of its own. That intelligence we refer to is the human elemental, it has an affinity for pleasure, and a disdain for discomfort. Lack of control over this human elemental is, I repeat is the cause of all addiction. A person in an addicted state does not have the will to stop the impulses of desire that emanate from the human elemental. I should know, I was there.

After my second D.U.I conviction, part of my probation included about 16 weeks of group therapy…twice a week. At first, I hated that shit. By the end though…I was practically the teacher’s pet. You now that ‘Oooh, ooh pick me, pick me’ type…fucking apple polisher, true story.

So why is this human elemental important to us? Well lets see, if we don’t control it…it will fuck up your life or kill you. More importantly, in the theosophical philosophy, the sum total of all of your impulse & urges from the human elemental, also your negative energy, emotions & karma consolidate into an entity we refer to as “The Dweller On The Threshold,” it is a form of spiritual initiation. It is always particular to the individual, and it is the last stand of the ‘evolved’ human elemental before the mind conquers it.
